Effective Home Window-Cleaning Kits

June 16, 2022 by Cody Lewis Leave a Comment

Window CleanerMany homeowners wonder what the best products are for them to use to help keep their windows as clean as possible between professional cleanings. A lot of retail cleaning products make all kinds of promises but still wind up streaking windows and causing potential harm to tinted windows. Some of the chemical-based solutions will remove some of the tint on home windows, and that creates unsightly bright spots. And with the retail industry for window-cleaning solutions paying big money for advertising, it’s easy to overpay for subpar cleaning products. But it really doesn’t take that much to have a good, affordable window-cleaning kit at home.

Affordable Window-Cleaning Products

Keeping your windows cleaner between professional cleaning visits is fairly simple. A bucket, spray bottle, warm tap water and a couple drops of dish detergent will suffice for the cleaning solution. A squeegee about 12 inches or more long and a couple of clean dish towels for scrubbing and a clean microfiber cloth for final wiping will create a very effective window-cleaning kit for use in the home and help keep your windows cleaner between professional washings. And that equals greater savings on your professional cleanings by making the job go faster, which will please the window-washer, too.

Most Window Cleaning Solutions Aren’t Needed

About two or three drops per gallon of clean, warm water is all it takes to provide an effective cleansing agent for windows that won’t streak when cleaned properly and won’t damage tinted windows. A clean dish towel works for scrubbing stubborn spots after wetting another clean dish towel to apply to homemade window solution. It can help to purchase a window mop at a home-improvement store to apply the solution. But rubber gloves and a wet but not dripping dish cloth will work. Once stubborn spots are gone, simply wipe down the window a final time with a wet cloth, remove it with the squeegee and touch up any spots with the a clean terry cloth or microfiber cloth.

Do you struggle to keep you home windows clean between professional window-cleaning visits?
