Decluttering your home can provide many benefits past just a cleaner home. When you get rid of physical clutter, it often allows you to actually let go of clutter in your mind, too. Here are a few ways you can declutter your home in less than five minutes.
Choose a Counter
Sometimes, looking at an entire room and thinking about decluttering it can feel very overwhelming. However, taking five minutes or less to clear off one counter is a good start. Of course, your goal is to eventually get all flat surfaces free of clutter. Start with one counter and repeat the process each day until you have it all done.
Hit the Medicine Cabinet
You might be surprised at what you have in your medicine cabinet that you don’t need. In less than five minutes, you can declutter this area of your home simply by looking for medicines that have expired and getting rid of empty containers.
Empty One Drawer Per Day
If you’ve wanted to organize your drawers, start with just one. You can empty the drawer and only put back the things that really do belong. One drawer a day will take you less than five minutes and can help you declutter fast.
Set a Declutter Appointment
This tip works great for those working from home. Set a time every day, just for five minutes, to declutter a portion of your home. This can include your office, desk, garage and any area you want. If you keep this up, you will get through every area of the house and you will be able to keep the clutter out.
Enforce the 30-Day Rule
After decluttering your home, make sure you put the 30-day rule in place. This rule will keep you from replacing the clutter with new stuff. Instead of rushing out to buy more things, write down the date you decided you wanted to buy something and wait 30 days. If you still want it then, get it. If not, you have avoided adding more clutter to your home.
These tips will help you declutter your home fast and keep it free of clutter. If you want to achieve success with decluttering, split it up into five-minute tasks and tackle one a day until you’re done.
