When it comes to your office, the break room gets a lot of action; after all, any area that houses coffee, snacks, lunch and the water cooler is going to be a popular spot. But unfortunately, because it’s so popular, break rooms also happen to get pretty dirty – not to mention cluttered and full of germs. So if you’re looking to spruce up your shared office space, take these tips into action in your office – your employees and your lunch will thank you.
Maintaining a Clean Break Room
Always clean up after yourself: This rule seems like common sense, but many employees may not know that it’s their responsibility to clean the messes they make. Make sure your employees know that they should clean any spilled foods or liquids and wipe down the microwave and coffee maker after use.
Keep the fridge fresh: Once a week, make sure that the fridge is cleaned out completely. If employees are worried about losing their coffee creamer, ask them to leave a note on anything they wish to keep. Regularly clearing out the fridge will ensure you keep moldy green stuff out of the office.
Wash the dishes: Nothing makes for a messier break room than dirty dishes in the sink. Institute a rule that all dishes should be washed or placed in the dishwasher (if you have one) after use. Use this rule regardless of whether dishes are the property of the business or the employees.
Hire a professional: Your employees may be good at keeping the break room clean, but a professional cleaning crew can do the deep cleaning that your employees (in their blouses and ties) will never do. Hiring cleaners once a week can give your employees a clean palette to work with.
