As a window cleaner guy, I spend a lot of time in people’s homes and businesses cleaning their windows and generally improving the condition of their lives (in a very, very small way). Working in complete silence isn’t so fun (especially in the Las Vegas heat), so I usually like to strike up a little friendly conversation. Once we get to talking, I am almost always asked this question: what is the best window cleaning solution?
This is to be expected considering my profession and the dusty town of Las Vegas in which I live. My answer is usually a surprising, not because of it’s complexity but because of its profound simplicity. Perhaps it comes of as one of the crummy ads you see on your computer: Follow This One Weird Trick to Get Ripped. One of those.
The Best Window Cleaning Solution
Everyone’s got their opinion, their little tricks and home remedies. This one is mine (as well as a few others’ I’ve seen online). I’m sure you’ve heard of using water and vinegar before. Works pretty well and is cheap as dirt, has fewer chemicals – all those benefits. But the trick is adding a bit of dish detergent:
- 2 cups water
- 1/4 cup white vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon dish detergent
Not only have I found this to be less expensive than commercial cleaners like Windex and others, but it seems to gets the windows cleaner and clearer. No more of those foggy looking windows. What’s more (and this is one of my favorite benefits) it gets the tough things off easier. It’s less work, less elbow grease.
This might seem like occupational suicide, divulging tricks and techniques to potential clients. But hey! Whatever. I hope it serves you well. Happy cleaning, Las Vegas. Until next time.
